Hello, for my first post I'd like to share something for the ears, not the eyes. Enjoy constructing your own musical composition with this Matrix sound board. The original was created by AM Laboratory.
This is a call out to the rest of the Shillo crew to tell you all what their favorite music to listen too whilst designing is...
OK it's Sunday and 10:50 am in old London and it's a bit cold and wet outside (can you believe it) I'm getting stuck into my 2nd espresso for the morning (yes I have a machine!) and I've fired up Spotify (sorry you guys in the US and Oz, it's only available in Europe right now) to find new music.
So my new bestest album for the week is Mogwai – "Hardcore Will Never Die, But You Will" which on title alone is the best album ever! If you like instrumental stuff and even if you don't have a Mogwai album you may have heard one of their tracks through any number of TV shows, docos, movies etc. These Scottish Post Rock pioneers will possibly move you as they move me and make you want to do stuff! And you know what that means – it's really good for the design process!
MOFFITT.MOFFITT. These guys go into the 'two' good category. Twin brothers both successful designers and creative directors that worked independently for different studios, but in more recent times became infamous for their collaboration. In particular their collaboration on the beautiful and dramatic Australian music talent mag entitled 'DEMO'. It was an instantly celebrated magazine amongst the design community in Australia and the first issue soon became more coveted than the last beer at an Aussie BBQ.
What was so good about it? Well you just have to look at it to see that it transcends above any of the usual music press tat. Not only is it a platform for the up and coming Aussie music talent, it equally demonstrates the great creative talents the writers, stylists and photographers who's work shines out in this large format magazine. Have a look at some of the magazine, Issues 1 & 2 below.
I strongly recommend you go along to the exhibition on at the 'MART' gallery. Incidentally MM did the identity for the gallery. The exhibition is entitled 'NO MORE' and is only on until the 28th Aug so get down there on the weekend before you miss out. Mart Gallery 156 Commonwealth Street, Surry Hills. Go now!
One of our current SYD FT students, Corrie, showed this film as her inspiration. I had seen this last year but then it was removed from Youtube. I was so thankful to see it again.
No lie. The word, images and music brought me to tears.
All shot on a cell phone and it became the NY Trop Fest winner 08. It is inspiring to see that with a cellphone, imagination and some editing you can move so many people.
If you love type and music then this will be a place for you to visit. Featuring loads of cool clips using a combination of type and animation to visually move with the sound of the music. Click here >
These guys are my favourite Melbourne band of all time... at the moment anyway. They've got a gig coming up in Sydney and Melbourne so you students down their in those states should check them out. Especially since I can't up here in Brisbane. Think movie soundtrack, post-rock, mogwai...
A gallery of beautiful posters for a wide rang of music/bands/concerts. Some awesome work by Jeff Kliensmith of Sub Pop Records & Patent Pending Industries.
My brother made a diaorama years ago to win a competition on this dodgy kids TV show in Wollongong called Space Ace, hosted by a puppet Pelican... the diaoramas that make up this site for Beck are just a little bit better, sorry Dave.
The dudes who built the site are one of my favourite web design companies who do a lot of web work for films and musicians. Check out the big eye too, very freaky.
